Runners of the Wind

Trained at the Université du Québec à Montréal, Johanne Blaquière holds a degree in design graphique. After several years as a graphic designer, her career branched off into drawing and painting, an art which she has been practicing ever since. For over the past ten years, she has been involved in art teaching, all the while continuing to create her own paintings.

In this exhibition, Johanne Blaquière plunges us into an imaginary and fantastic world of horses and riders. The horse, symbol of freedom, runner of the wind, is the ideal subject to demonstrate all the magic of the creative process.

Using a variety of media in some of her artwork, or just oil and acrylics in others, the painter presents horses and riders in abstract worlds evoking images that alternate between South America, the Middle East and Europe. Behold an invitation to travel beyond the bounds of reality and give way to the imagination!

The paintings emit an incredible force of both strength and grace. With bold and gentle strokes of the brush, the horses appear ethereal and transparent, but their formidable colours make these magnificent creatures literally leap from the canvas.
